I'm Not Sorry

Let's keep this thought of the day short and sweet:  I'm voting FOR Amendment 1, and I'm NOT Sorry.

I'm sorry if it hurts anyone's feelings, but I'm not sorry for standing up for what I believe in.  I'm a Christian, and if I didn't stand up for my beliefs, what kind of Christian would I be?  I could go into a lot of details, but a long drawn out argument of a blog post isn't what I want.  I will just say a few things:

1.  I believe same sex marriage is a sin.  While I love many people who are for this very thing, I don't have to agree with it and I will stand up for what I believe to be right.  I firmly believe what the bible says and it clearly states that this is wrong (Leviticus 18:22).

2.  Like I said... I love many people who are probably going to be angry at me for posting this.  But if I love someone and don't try to steer them in the right direction in some way, am I really loving them?  I'm not going to watch them do something detestable to God and tell them it's okay.

3.  Our country was founded on Christian principles.  Has no one else noticed that the further we stray away from those the worse this country gets?

Think what you want, but I am not full of hate.  Rather, it's quite the opposite.  I am tired of seeing Christians sugarcoat sin.  Let's boldly proclaim.

I'm sorry for stirring things up, but I'm still not sorry for my opinion.  Let's face it... I'm stubborn and opinionated.  I generally try to avoid controversial issues because of this.  Otherwise I'd like to think I'm pretty awesome... and those who know me know this is not out of hatred in my heart.  :)

  2. I respect your opinion though I don't agree with it. And we can disagree without getting angry or vilifying one another so I can affirm that portion of your post. I do want to ask you a question, though. Do you think we should stone gay people on sight? Because if not, I don't think you really agree with the Bible on this issue. The reason I will vote against is because I want to get married one day. I can't look my friends in the eye and tell them I don't want them to be able to do the same.

  3. 1. Yes, the bible does say same sex marriage is a sin. Leviticus also says children should be put to death if they disobey their parents (20:9), women are only worth half as much as men (27:3-7), and menstruating women should be quarantined (15:19). Why don't we support constitutional amendments such as these? Aren't I committing a sin every morning when I wake up and shave for work? (Leviticus 19:27)

    2. Yes, if you are a parent who loves his or her children, you want to steer them towards getting a good education, avoiding drugs, and overall choosing the right decisions. Good thing everyone in this country is 10 years old right?

    3. There are several inaccuracies with this last statement, so I will attempt to cover them all. First, the founding fathers would completely disagree with the concept that, "Our country was founded on Christian principles." As a matter of fact, there are several founding fathers who did not follow the Christian faith (actually many were Deists). Just to name a few: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton. Secondly, even if these founding fathers were indeed Christians and this nation was built upon Christian principles, the separation of church and state should at the very least prevent any legislation stemming from a religious view from being passed. Lastly, there is so very little evidence provided to support the theory that the country is 'getting worse' because we are losing our Christian values. Actually, since there is so little evidence provided to suggest a possible correlation between the 'loss of Christianity' and the 'worsening state' of this country, that statement cannot possibly be supported.

  4. You don't want to be persecuted for your belief, but you want to persecute others because they don't think the same way as you?

    That's the impression I got...
